To Succeed IRQUE Project
The Higher Education Ministry has deigned to improve all aspects of the Higher Education sector with the launch of Higher Education for the 21st Century (HETC) project which is entirely funded by the World Bank. The Ministry will launch this program to develop the institutional foundation and improve the quality and economic and social relevance of the services offered by the Universities in Sri Lake. The Alternative Higher Education sector will also receive a huge boost under this project which is estimated to cost Rs.4650 million. Higher Education Minister Prof. Wiswa Warnapala has forwarded the Ministry’s comprehensive plan for the improvement of higher education sector in the country and World Bank officials have agreed to fine project entirely. The project will succeed the Improving the Relevance and Quality of Undergraduate Education (IRQUE) project which will be completed soon. He said this project comprises four categories. The first component supports the national level development in the Higher Education Sector while the second complement assists the development of Universities through improving the Quality of Educational programmes and employability of graduates. The project will also focus on the development of alternative Higher Education sector, Human Resource Development and capacity building of academic and managerial staff in the Universities and ATII.
