Accreditation of Degree Awarding Institute and Programme

The quality assurance and accreditation of Non State Higher Education Institutions (NSHEIs) is emphasized by the University Act No. 16 of 1978 and section 25A empowered the Minister in charge for the subject of Higher Education to recognize NSHEIs as “Degree Awarding Institute”. By following provisions of the said Act, the Hon. Minister of Higher Education, Technology & Innovations has appointed Secretary to the Minister of Higher Education, Technology & Innovations as the “Specified Authority” to make an appropriate recommendation for application submitted by NSHEI to recognize as degree awarding Institute/Programme.

The accreditation and quality assurance of NSHEI is performed under the supervision of Secretary to the Ministry /Specified Authority. Further Specified Authority has appointed a Standing Committee on Accreditation and Quality Assurance (SCAQA) and ad hoc committees to assist the process of accreditation.
